Our Story
Creative Koji LLC, founded by Gabe Garms, is a Pacific Northwest based company dedicated to crafting artisanal miso products using locally grown and sourced ingredients. We combine traditional techniques with innovative local flavors, offering consumers high quality, non traditional miso options that celebrate the region's diverse culinary heritage.
Our product line features unique miso flavors like black bean, pink bean, pumpkin seed, pink bean/king bolete, dandelion root, burdock root, alongside experimental blends with wild foods and seasonal produce. Each batch undergoes rigorous quality control measures to uphold our standards of excellence.
Beyond retail sales, we collaborate with restaurants and food enthusiasts to showcase miso's versatility. We also engage the community through educational workshops and tastings, fostering a deeper appreciation for fermented foods and local ingredients.

About Gabe Garms
Gabe has been obsessively fermenting for over 15 years now. He started his journey after reading The Art of Fermentation and was forever hooked after that. He’s made all kinds of lacto ferments, fermented beverages, sourdough creations, fruit and vegetable based vinegars and even cheeses. But when the Noma Guide to Fermentation came out, his life changed profoundly. That book inspired him to make misos out of just about everything except soybeans and that’s what he’s been doing ever since.
Outside of fermenting and misos, Gabe has also co-founded a Naturalist School in Western Washington called Raven’s Roots Naturalist School and has run it for over a decade. At the school he taught permaculture, ethnobotany, wild foraging, wilderness survival and bird language and behavior. He also plays guitar and sings in his free time and lives with his wife Reisha and son Rowan in Twisp, WA.
